    (Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Lieutenant Colonel (Infantry) James Oren McCray (ASN: 0-22168), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving as Commanding Officer of the 2d Battalion, 383d Infantry Regiment, 96th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy at San Pedro Bay, Leyte, Philippine Islands, on 26 October 1944. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Lieutenant Colonel McCray, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
