The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Captain (Field Artillery) Donald E. Kennedy (ASN: 0-303229), United States Army, for heroism while serving with the 35th Infantry Division at ****, Germany, on 26 March 1945. When an enemy artillery shell struck and set ablaze a powder dump in his battery, Captain Kennedy immediately ran to his gun position and there found an enlisted man whose clothes were afire from the burning powder. Unhesitatingly, and with disregard for personal safety, Captain Kennedy braved the flames, pulled the soldier to safety and smothered the flames engulfing the enlisted man, by throwing dirt upon them. By his quick and courageous actions, Captain Kennedy saved a soldier of his command from further injury and possible death.
