The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Staff Sergeant Denzil L. Lindbom (ASN: 36960818), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 35th Infantry Division, in action near ****, Germany, on 12 April 1945. When he and two comrades were isolated on the hostile shore of the **** River after crossing into enemy territory, engaging in several fire fights with the enemy, and capturing a prisoners, Sergeant Lindbom jumped into the icy water, swam across the river under machine gun fire, secured a boat and rowed across the river, then returned with two comrades and the German prisoner.
