    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain (Infantry) Lynn John Hunt, United States Army, for gallantry in action while engaged in military operations involving conflict with an armed hostile force in the Republic of Vietnam. Captain Hunt distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous actions on 18 March 1970 while serving as Commanding Officer of Troop B, 1st Squadron, 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment in the Republic of Vietnam. On this date Troop B was engaged by an estimate battalion of North Vietnamese soldiers equipped with rocket propelled grenades, recoilless rifle, automatic weapons and small arms. During the initial moments of contact one of the lead vehicles was struck by three rocket propelled grenades seriously wounding the crew members. Immediately Captain Hunt maneuvered toward their position and moved the casualties to safety. He then went to the assistance of another injured crew. Throughout the entire contact Captain Hunt continued to maintain control of his men and leadership, constantly maneuvering them into the most advantageous positions to counteract the enemy fire. Because of his actions, the enemy received many casualties and lost numerous weapons and munitions. Captain Hunt’s gallantry in action, was in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflects great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
