The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Staff Sergeant Arthur J. Christenson (ASN: 37095062), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company G, 2d Battalion, 148th Infantry Regiment, 37th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy at Luzon, Philippine Islands, on 13 February 1945. After bringing his squad forward to aid an adjacent squad which was in a fierce fire fight, Staff Sergeant Christenson crawled through intense fire to rescue a wounded squad leader and one of his riflemen. Then, commanding both squads, Staff Sergeant Christenson set up a line, reestablished contact with his company front, and directed the reduction of enemy positions. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Staff Sergeant Christenson, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
