    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class A. L. McDonald (ASN: 38327900), United States Army, for gallantry in action against the enemy while serving with the 358th Infantry Regiment, 90th Infantry Division in action on 23 November 1944 in the vicinity of Borg, Germany. During the attack, enemy machine gun fire threatened the advance of Company **, 358th Infantry Regiment. Private First Class McDonald, in the position of Lead Scout, immediately and at risk of his life, moved toward the enemy position, and in hand-to-hand combat, killed two of the enemy gun crew. By his cool, courageous actions, Private First Class McDonald removed a serious threat to the company which allowed them to proceed on their mission. His gallantry was in accordance with high military traditions.
