Awarded for actions during the World War II

The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technical Sergeant Robert A. Belet (MCSN: 256662), United States Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while serving with the FIRST Marine Division during operations against enemy Japanese forces on Guadalcanal, Solomon Islands, on the night of 9 - 10 August 1942. With utter disregard for his own personal safety, Technical Sergeant Belet, in the face of persistent enemy fire, skillfully directed the repairing of a critical wire line. His efficient and courageous leadership was an inspiration to his men and aided materially in re-establishing communication over this vital circuit. His initiative, perseverance, and unswerving loyalty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
