The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Navy and Marine Corps Medal to Machinist Edwin Murdock, United States Navy, for heroism when the U.S.S. LAKOTI foundered in a storm on21 August 1942. Machinist Murdock took charge of two rubber boats in which were embarked some of the survivors and rendered great assistance to his Commanding Officer by his example of courage and by his aid to the sick, until he himself collapsed from exposure and shock. His conduct throughout was in keeping with the finest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
