Paul Trimble graduated from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, Class of 1936. From 1966 to 1970 he served as the 10th Assistant Commandant of the U.S. Coast Guard. He retired as a U.S. Coast Guard Vice Admiral in 1970.

(Citation Needed) - SYNOPSIS: Vice Admiral Paul Edwin Trimble, United States Coast Guard, was awarded a Gold Star in lieu of a Second Award of the Coast Guard Distinguished Service Medal for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service in a position of great responsibility to the Government of the United States, culminating as Chairman of the Interagency Task Force that developed plans for the newly enacted Department of Transportation, of which the Coast Guard would become a member. The singularly distinctive accomplishments of Vice Admiral Trimble and his dedicated contributions reflect the highest credit upon himself and the United States Coast Guard.
