Awarded for actions during the Mexican Border Wars

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Second Lieutenant James Basevi Ord, United States Army, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished services to the while serving with the 6th Infantry, attached to the 13th Cavalry. While in action at Parral, Mexico, on 12 April 1916, after being himself wounded, Second Lieutenant Ord dismounted from his horse under heavy fire, placed a wounded man on a horse, and assisted him from the field.
