Awarded for actions during the Philippine Insurrection

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross, in lieu of a previously issued Certificate of Merit and Distinguished Service Medal, to Trumpeter Almer A. Anderson, United States Army, for extraordinary gallantry while serving as a member of Troop F, 7th Cavalry Regiment. Trumpeter Anderson rendered assistance to a fellow trooper who was disabled while swimming horses across the Tagnig River, near Fort McKinley, Philippine Islands, 9 November 1912, probably saving the man's life.

General Orders: D.S.C. issued in lieu of the Certificate of Merit and the D.S.M. under the provisions of the act of Congress (March 5, 1931)
